The Listening Process

About the Facilitator

facilitator to the Listening Process. Canon Phil GrovesIn January 2006 the Revd Canon Phil Groves was appointed Facilitator for the Listening Process. He began monitoring the work being undertaken on the subject of human sexuality in the Anglican Communion and developing the process of mutual listening, including “listening to the experience of homosexual persons” and the experience of local churches around the world.

The first task has been to discover models of best practice from around the  Communion and to explore ways of applying these in a wide variety of contexts.

Phil Groves was previously a vicar in the Church of England. Prior to that he was for seven years a lecturer at a Provincial Theological College in Tanzania. He has experience of working alongside the Primate of Uganda when they were both in Arua (Uganda) in 1985. He has enjoyed travelling in the USA and Canada where he has relatives.

He developed and taught a course on Anglicanism for the Church of Tanzania and is currently researching a biblical model of international partnership.

He has recently published a Grove Booklet entitled Global Partnerships for Local Mission.

He is on the Council of St John’s Nottingham and is a Trustee of the Church Mission Society.
