Companion Diocesan Links have been a means of developing relationships and mutual partnership in mission throughout the dioceses and parishes of the Anglican Communion for many years. The Diocese of Durgapur - The Church of North India (United) is seeking a new link and has given information on the diocese below. If your diocese is interested in forming a link with them please respond directly to the Bishop.

Brief history of Diocese:
The Diocese of Durgapur was formed in 1972 being an interregnal part of the Church of North India. The Diocese area spreads over eight districts of West Bengal, towards the North Western direction from the city of Kolkata. The Diocese has thirty pastoralis and has a membership of 15,000. The people in this Diocese are mostly tribal people (Sanltiali Tribe)
Any previous or existing Links:
The Diocese has no previous links but is part of the provincial link of the Churches in Derbyshire and the Church of North India. We are planning to start a link with Wirksworth in Derby. No definite link has been established.
Reason for wanting a Link:
Our desire as a Diocese is to have a stronger link with the world wide Anglican Church. This gives the opportunity to broaden our understanding of other parts of the world and to be more involved in partnership with a deeper sense of belonging to the global Church. To support each other in prayer, fellowship and sharing.
