Companion Diocesan Links have been a means of developing relationships and mutual partnership in mission throughout the dioceses and parishes of the Anglican Communion for many years. The Diocese of Madi West Nile - Church of Uganda is seeking a new link and has given information on the diocese below. Brief history of Diocese:
The Diocese of Madi West Nile was curved out of Northern Uganda in 1969. It was originally evangelised by African Inland Mission (AIM) and the church was planted in 1918. It later joined Church of Uganda founded by Church Mission Society (CMS) to become part of the Province of The Church of Uganda.
Any previous or existing Links:
We have been linked to Winchester till now: but the link is not very active because Winchester Diocese is a Provincial link with the Province of Uganda. There are many dioceses in Uganda and the relationship is not very active in the Diocese of Madi West Nile.
Reason for wanting a Link:
- We want more links because Madi West Nile is a large Diocese with 107 parishes, 10 Archdeaconries and over 800 local Churches and over 800,000 Christians.
- We need links in order to have more activities, Visitations and support.
What expectations you have of the Link?
- We expect the Diocese which may link with us to have programmes like training.
- Exchange of personnel as missionaries.
- Regular visits financial support.
- Educational support in form of books scholarship and teachers.
- Lecturers for our new University Study Centre.
- Diocesan support staff and short term missionaries to visit.
What part of the world you would like your Link to be?
It doesn’t matter what part of the world we are linked with but a diocese that may want to be linked with us. We may link with Churches in USA, Europe, Asia or Africa.
Describe the style and patterns of church life and ministry in your diocese.
The pattern of Church life and ministry in our Diocese takes the holistic approach to address the issues of Evangelism and Discipleship:
- Personnel development through Education, conferences.
- Conventions: Seminars, Workshops, Retreats.
- Agricultural extension programmes.
- It also takes structural developments like building cathedral right now plans to build Youth Centre.
- Women guest house and hospitals.
